Also known as eyebag surgery or lower eyelid blepharoplasty. is done to reduce or remove the fat that are seen seen bulging under the skin of the lower eyelids.
The condition could be hereditary but in general is due to aging process where there is weakening and laxity of the of the septal wall and the muscles of the lower eyelid. Laxity and wrinkling of the lower eyelid skin usually accompanies the latter condition.
Removal of the eyebag can be done through the transconjunctival approach using laser surgery or through the traditional external approach. The former is usually used in young patients with no skin laxity while the latter is for patients with skin laxity that needs to be trimmed. Either way, both procedures are painless and leaves no visible scar.
